“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” ~Anais Nin
I specialize in working with Deaf and hard of hearing adults who use American Sign Language (and other sign languages) to communicate and am Deaf myself. I currently only offer telehealth sessions (videophone or Zoom.)
My philosophy about therapy is that everyone should have a therapist (yes, even therapists have therapists!) My approach to therapy is eclectic (like me!) I use techniques from a variety of approaches including motivational interviewing, cognitive behavior therapy, cognitive processing therapy, polyvagal theory, and recently completed the first training module for multi-channel eye movement integration therapy.
I feel that each person is so unique it is important to have a variety of tools available to be able to meet your specific needs. Humor and creativity are a large part of the work that I do and important to the healing process and work well with my down-to-earth, realistic approach to counseling.
A large part of my work has been with trauma survivors, and I have training in Cognitive Processing Therapy specifically for treating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (and complex PTSD.) Effective therapy is very much about the relationship developed between therapist and Client. Healing happens best in safe spaces, and I aim to provide that type of space.
